Trusted Pre-K Education Center in McKinney TX - Stonebrdige Academy

Are you concerned that your child is growing up too quickly? There once was a time when you could still hold them in your arms; now they are asking seemingly endless questions about everything under the sun. As a parent, you know that the years leading up to being eligible for kindergarten will probably hold some of the best memories for you and your child. During these critical years of development, children have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and exploration—especially during the years leading up to their eligibility for kindergarten.

If you live in McKinney, TX, and have been searching for a Pre-K program for your child, you have likely experienced both excitement and anxiety. You want a program that is more than just “daycare”; you want a program that provides an educational experience while still providing warmth and comfort, similar to home.

Stonebridge Academy can provide you and your child with everything you need to create new memories as you learn together! At our learning center, we will not only care for your child but also help develop them into tomorrow’s leaders, thinkers, and friends! In this article, we’ll take a look at why so many families have chosen Stonebridge Academy as their family’s partner on this journey into education!

🧩 A Curriculum Built for Curious Minds

A four-year-old child is learning many things; some children are learning the ABC’s, some children are learning how to sit still. At Stonebridge Academy we believe that four-year-olds need to spark a flame of curiosity inside!

The curriculum used at Stonebridge Academy is designed for kids in Pre-Kindergarten and is not considered “for babies” or boring “lecture.” At Stonebridge Academy we use the “Learning Through Play” Methodology.

When you see a child building a castle with blocks you might think that it is just play, but our teachers see geometry (shapes), physics (balance) and social skills (sharing). When we set up a pretend grocery store, children can learn math (money), literacy (reading labels), and communication all while pretending! We want to make sure to take care of the entire child, we focus on the child’s brain, body, and heart!

👩 Teachers Who Are Experts in “Why?”

If you have a four-year-old, you know their favorite word is “Why?”

  • “Why is the sky blue?”
  • “Why do dogs bark?”
  • “Why do I have to eat peas?”

Answering questions with enthusiasm requires dedication and graciousness. This is what makes our Pre K McKinney teachers such an important part of our program.

Every one of our teachers is an educator, not just a babysitter. All of our teachers have gone through the proper training and have experience in early childhood development.

For instance, if one of our children asked their teacher why it is raining, the teacher will not simply respond “because of the weather”. Instead, they will, possibly, take the class to the window so they can see the rain; possibly they could read a book about clouds; or they could do a simple experiment using tangible materials such as water and sponges.

All of our teachers will have appropriate training in handling any safety issues or emotional support issues. They are trained to assist any child who may be struggling with separation anxiety or helping a shy child make friends. They are the nurturing, stable individuals who will help your child feel secure enough to learn and grow.

🚀 Launching Pad for Kindergarten Success

Transitions can be challenging for children starting preschool to kindergarten as there are more desks, more rules and more expectations. You want to ensure that your child feels confident and prepared when they start their first day of school at kindergarten.

Many parents will often ask if their child is prepared for kindergarten. When you choose Stonebridge Academy as your preschool in McKinney the answer will be YES!

We prepare them with the hard skills of being able to recognize letters and write their names, but we also work on the social/emotional skills that many kindergarten teachers are looking for.

  • Can they open their own lunchbox?
  • Can they zip their own jacket?
  • Can they raise their hand and wait for a turn?
  • Can they follow two-step directions? (Like “Put your bag away and sit on the rug.”)

These skills might seem small, but they are huge for a five-year-old. Mastering them gives children a sense of independence. It means they can focus on learning instead of struggling with their buttons or feeling lost.

🎨 A Day in the Life of a Pre-K Student

What does a typical day look like in our Pre-K McKinney program? It is filled with both active and calm times. We feel that having a routine is essential as it helps children know what will happen next, thus helping them to create their own sense of security.

  • Morning Meeting: We all start the day together and discuss what the weather is, what day it is, and what we will be doing that day to help create a feeling of community.
  • Center Time: Children can select what centre they want to play in. Some may want to play in the art centre and do some painting while others may want to go to the reading corner. This teaches children to make choices.
  • Outdoor Play: Children need to have time to be physically active! We have a great playground where children can run, climb, and yell; this helps kids build strong muscles and release energy so they can be focused throughout the rest of the day.
  • Prof. Group Learning: The educator will engage students in learning about one general theme (e.g. “Ocean Animals” or “Community Helpers”) by introducing new vocabulary and big ideas around that theme.
  • Rest Time: Since children are growing and their brains are developing, they need to have time to rest. We have quiet time and children can either take a nap or simply lay quietly to recharge for the afternoon.
